I had a sketch in one of my sketchbooks for years, showing a very rough and early version of what you can see here. There was no minion or surrounding, just the astronaut standing there. I was coming back to him from time to time and when I was browsing my sketchbooks.
Then one day, I took my camera and took a picture of him and started painting on top of the sketch in Photoshop. Since the sketch was very pale and I liked that quality about it, I chose to make it look like pastel and charcoal, always refering back to the sketch to not march into the wrong direction.
I put a toolbox (or lunchbox?) into his hand and created some kind of minion or companion for him. It’s always important to have something to do, and to have someone who joins you doing it, isn’t it?
